Wheeler Seniors Job Shadow at PyramidMDT

Groton – Punxsutawney Phil may have seen his shadow last week, forecasting six more weeks of winter, but two students from North Stonington, CT got to see more than their shadows… they got to glimpse into what the future would be like working in the field of graphic design and web technology.
Tommy Kadoma and Mike Chattem, both seniors at Wheeler High School, participated in this year’s National Groundhog Job Shadow Day with the staff at the multimedia design firm of Pyramid Marketing, Design & Technology in Groton. Groundhog Job Shadow Day is a mentor program whereby students spend time with a professional at his or her workplace.
This year Kadoma and Chattem who both have an interest in graphic arts, video and motion graphics shadowed Thor Torgersen, owner of Pyramid MDT. “It’s great to be able to sit with these kids and tell them a little bit about the industry and what you can do with a vivid imagination and a broad skill set,” Torgersen said.
After spending some time discussing some of the latest graphic design technologies with Torgersen, the students donned wireless microphones and got to work in Pyramid MDT’s video production studio using chromakey application, or green screen as it is more commonly known. With scenes from Notre Dame Cathedral and the U.S. Capital in the background, Chattem and Kadoma shot teasers for the latest addition to Pyramid MDT’s website – Pyramid MDT TV.
